KPV Peptide

What It Is, Potential Benefits, and Dosing Guidelines

What Is KPV?

KPV is a short tripeptide made up of three amino acids — lysine (K), proline (P), and valine (V). It is derived from the C-terminal (tail) region of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), a naturally occurring hormone in the body known for its anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties.

Because KPV represents the smallest active fragment of α-MSH, researchers have studied it as a way to capture some of the anti-inflammatory signaling of the parent hormone in a much smaller, more targeted molecule. It does not carry the pigmentation-related effects associated with full-length α-MSH, which has made it attractive as a research compound in inflammation, gut health, and skin biology.

KPV is currently classified as a research peptide. It has not been approved by the FDA for the treatment of any human disease or condition. The information below reflects findings from laboratory and animal studies, and it is provided for educational purposes only.

Reported Benefits in Research

The majority of KPV research has taken place in cell culture and animal models. Findings from this body of work include:

  • Gut & Digestive Health: Preclinical studies in animal models of colitis have found that KPV can help calm inflammatory activity in the colon, support the integrity of the intestinal barrier, and reduce markers of tissue damage associated with inflammatory bowel conditions.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Activity: KPV has been shown in laboratory studies to reduce the production of pro-inflammatory signaling molecules (such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) and to inhibit inflammatory pathways like NF-κB, similar to mechanisms seen with its parent hormone, α-MSH.
  • Skin & Barrier Support: Because of its small size and anti-inflammatory action, KPV has been studied for its potential role in soothing inflamed skin and supporting skin barrier recovery in laboratory models.
  • Immune Modulation: Research suggests KPV may help shift immune cell activity (such as macrophage behavior) toward a less inflammatory, more balanced state, which is of interest for chronic inflammatory conditions broadly.

It’s important to note that while these findings are promising, most of this research has been conducted in vitro and in animal models rather than in large-scale human clinical trials. Effects observed in early research do not guarantee the same results in humans.

General Dosing Guidelines

There is no FDA-approved or universally standardized human dose for KPV. The ranges below reflect what has commonly been discussed in the research and compounding literature and are provided as general reference information only — not as a prescription or treatment recommendation.

Route Typical Reported Range Notes
Subcutaneous injection ~200–500 mcg per dose (20-50 units) Often discussed as once daily; frequency varies by protocol
  • Always individualized: The right dose, route, and duration depend on your health history, goals, and how your body responds — this should always be determined by your prescribing provider, not by a general chart.
  • Start low: When peptides are used under medical supervision, providers typically start at the lower end of a range and adjust based on tolerance and response.
  • Consistency matters: Any protocol should be followed exactly as directed by your provider, with regular follow-up to reassess progress.

Safety & Important Notes

  • KPV should only be used under the guidance of a licensed medical provider.
  • Do not start, stop, or adjust any peptide protocol without consulting your prescriber.
  • Tell your provider about all medications, supplements, and health conditions before beginning any new therapy.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should not use KPV unless specifically directed by a physician.
  • Report any unexpected side effects to your care team promptly.
